When you apply for a visa, the key consideration is whether or not you would utilise the Visa for its stated purpose.
So if you are applying for a Tourist Visa, you must satisfy the Consular Officer(s) reviewing your application that you are travelling on vacation and intend to return to your country at the end of your visit.
If you do the following, it may be tough to convince the officer(s) that you will utilise the Visa for the intended purpose:
1. You present a Bank Statement with insufficient funds to cover the cost of the trip

Your statement should contain sufficient balance that covers the cost of tickets, accommodation, feeding, planned activities etc. Large, sudden and unexplained deposits may also get you a denial. These may suggest that your balance does not accurately reflect your financial position or that the funds may not be available for your proposed trip.
2. You do not have any history of travel outside Nigeria

If you have never gone on vacation outside Nigeria, consider starting with visa-free countries or countries that offer visas on arrival. Showing that you have visited other countries and returned within the permitted timeframe may be evidence of your responsible travel history.
3. You are unable to show family ties to your home country

Inability to demonstrate strong family ties to your home country may suggest that you have no incentive to return home after your vacation.
4. You do not present evidence of a steady job or occupation

It would be easier to convince the reviewer that you would return home after your trip if you can show that you earn a good income from your occupation and that there is no incentive to forego it.
5. You lie in your application

Officials are trained to spot lies and have databases and resources to fact-check. Do not embellish the truth or lie outrightly about previous visa applications, earnings, travel history, family ties etc. If you do so and the lie is spotted (and it most likely will be), your visa application may be rejected.
